How to Build a Weekly Forex and Gold Trading Plan: Calendar, Zones, Risk and Review
INTRODUCTION A weekly trading plan combines economic-event awareness, higher-timeframe price structure, marked trading zones and realistic risk limits. It is a planning framework, not a forecast promising how many pips each pair will deliver. PRACTICAL MARKET EXAMPLE Before Monday, a trader can mark Gold previous-week high/low, EUR/USD H4 trend and scheduled US CPI or central-bank events. Every scenario should include a condition for no entry. IMPORTANT LIMITATIONS A weekend plan becomes stale after an unexpected geopolitical headline; reassess during the week rather than forcing the original bias. WHY A WEEKLY TRADING PLAN MATTERS A weekly Forex and Gold plan is a structured method for preparing scenarios before the market becomes emotionally demanding. It combines higher-timeframe trend analysis, major Support/Supply and Demand zones, the economic calendar, chosen trading sessions and fixed risk limits. Its purpose is not to guarantee how many pips a pair will move. Instead, it identifies conditions under which the trader will consider entering, when they will stay flat and what information would invalidate the original idea. A repeatable plan reduces the temptation to chase every sudden candle. THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FORECAST AND A PLAN A forecast attempts to estimate a future outcome, such as bullish Gold for the week. A plan states conditional actions: if Gold breaks and holds above H1 Resistance, study a continuation; if it sweeps the high and confirms bearish structure, consider the opposite scenario; if neither occurs, do not trade. These are fundamentally different ways of organizing decisions. Markets can change in response to data. A useful plan survives an incorrect initial bias because its invalidation and alternative scenarios were prepared in advance. START WITH CAPITAL PROTECTION Before chart analysis, decide the acceptable maximum account loss per trade and the maximum risk exposed across simultaneously open positions. A small account does not become safer just because the setup seems technically strong. For example, on a hypothetical $1,000 equity account, 0.5% risk equals $5 and one percent equals $10. These are illustrative numbers, not personalized recommendations. The actual Stop Distance determines Lot Size. Leverage changes required margin, not the amount of money you should willingly lose. CHOOSE A SMALL WATCHLIST A beginner might monitor Gold XAUUSD, EUR/USD and GBP/USD instead of trying to trade dozens of charts simultaneously. The right selection depends on the trader's tested method, broker spreads and schedule. A small watchlist improves attention to context and makes it easier to track correlated USD exposure. If every instrument responds to the same US inflation surprise, the watchlist may contain several versions of one macro bet. Count combined risk, not simply the number of symbols. BUILD THE ECONOMIC CALENDAR Review scheduled high-impact reports and central-bank announcements before the trading week. For USD-sensitive Gold and Forex pairs, examples include CPI, Core PCE, NFP, FOMC decisions, Retail Sales and major Fed speeches. For EUR/USD consider ECB and euro-area inflation; for GBP/USD include BoE and UK CPI; for USD/JPY include BoJ and Japanese inflation. The exact upcoming calendar changes, so verify official and current sources rather than relying on a static schedule. A news plan should record what the trader will do during releases, including choosing not to trade. TIMEZONE AND SESSION ACCURACY A trader in Pakistan or Malaysia must convert economic release times and Forex sessions correctly. London and US daylight-saving changes occur on different calendar dates; neither local timezone necessarily matches the broker's server time. A saved screenshot that labels a fixed London opening hour for every month can become wrong after a clock change. Use timezone-aware calendars, record the chosen session start and identify what the chart's candle timestamps represent. Accurate timing affects both technical range markings and news execution safety. BEGIN WITH D1 AND H4 MARKET STRUCTURE The Daily chart can provide a broader view of the prevailing market regime. The H4 chart is often practical for identifying confirmed Higher Highs/Higher Lows, Lower Highs/Lower Lows or a sideways range. The labels themselves should be based on consistent swing rules. A recent bullish candle does not necessarily reverse a weeks-long H4 downtrend. Record the location of the last meaningful external swing, whether structure is trending or ranging, and the closest important opposing levels. MARK PREVIOUS WEEK HIGH AND LOW Previous Week High and Previous Week Low are objective historical reference prices that intraday and swing traders may watch. They can coincide with potential liquidity areas because breakout and protective orders may accumulate around obvious extremes. But touching a prior high does not guarantee reversal, and a break above it does not guarantee continuation. Mark the levels before Monday trading and observe actual price acceptance, rejection and structural confirmations. They are reference points, not an explanation for every move. PREVIOUS DAY HIGH AND LOW Update Previous Day High and Previous Day Low as each session completes. These levels often matter for intraday comparisons because price may revisit yesterday's extremes. A sweep above the prior high followed by a completed bearish structure change may support a failed-breakout scenario. However, a sustained breakout can continue to a new trend high. Draw the exact reference based on your broker's daily candle convention and recognize that different server timezones can create different daily highs and lows. H4 SUPPORT AND RESISTANCE ZONES Do not mark an endless collection of horizontal lines at every small pivot. Identify meaningful H4 Supply or Demand areas based on prior market reactions, significant swing highs/lows and confirmed breaks. Mark zones with enough price width to reflect the observed structure; price rarely respects one exact decimal forever. Too many competing zones can make every candle seem like a signal. Rank the primary areas and keep secondary levels only when they change the actual trade plan. H1 ENTRY-LOCATION REFINEMENT Once H4 direction and zones are clear, use H1 to identify which specific area might offer a reasonable entry location. For a bullish H4 trend, a return toward prior H1 Demand could be monitored for continuation. For a bearish H4 trend, a rally into old Support-turned-Resistance might provide a Sell observation. If H1 is far from any meaningful zone, standing aside may be better than forcing a trade at the range midpoint. Location is one part of a setup, not confirmation. M15 SETUP AND M5 EXECUTION M15 can show whether price is compressing, rejecting a zone or breaking an intraday boundary. M5 can provide more precise execution conditions such as a completed Engulfing, Break of Structure, Change of Character or confirmed retest. Decide exactly what a valid signal requires before the week begins. A forming M5 candle can reverse before close; if full close is mandatory, do not act on a temporary green body. A conservative signal can occasionally be late, so risk-to-reward must still be checked. BUILD BOTH BULLISH AND BEARISH SCENARIOS A professional weekly plan should contain at least two conditional cases for each active symbol. For Gold, a bullish scenario might require H1 Demand holding and a completed M5 bullish shift; a bearish scenario might require H1 Supply rejection or a confirmed breakdown beneath Demand. Only one may trigger, or neither may. Preparing both does not mean opening a Buy and Sell together. It means knowing which observable conditions would favor each hypothesis while retaining the freedom to remain flat. A SAMPLE GOLD XAUUSD PLAN Suppose the previous week left an important H4 Supply Zone above and H4 Demand below the current price. The trader marks both zones, the previous-week high/low and relevant US economic events. If Gold revisits Demand, forms a meaningful sell-side sweep and completes a bullish M5 CHoCH, a Buy candidate may be evaluated. If Gold instead breaks Demand and retests it from below with bearish confirmation, a Sell scenario may become relevant. Stops and targets must be set using actual broker Gold specifications; these are conditional educational examples, not live signals. EUR/USD WEEKLY SCENARIOS Start with H4 EUR/USD structure and the previous-week extremes. Check whether the ECB, euro-area CPI or US data could materially affect the pair. If H4 is bullish and H1 Demand is nearby, require the specific continuation entry trigger before considering Buy. If H4 reverses beneath a meaningful Higher Low, update the bias instead of repeatedly buying a broken zone. Identify the nearest H1 Resistance target and ensure the projected reward is sufficient after spread. A weekly prediction is less valuable than a clear invalidation rule. GBP/USD AND USD/JPY DIFFERENCES GBP/USD requires attention to UK inflation, wages and the BoE relative to Fed expectations. USD/JPY requires Japanese rates, BoJ policy, US-Japan yield differences and potential yen volatility. A generic 'USD Strong' thesis may not produce identical movement in these pairs. Plan each symbol's technical levels and relevant domestic news individually. Correlations can change around central-bank events. If several trades share one dollar exposure, keep total open risk under the predefined portfolio limit. THE STOP LOSS MUST INVALIDATE AN IDEA A logical Stop Loss is placed where the trade thesis becomes materially less credible, often beyond a meaningful swing high/low or reaction zone. It should not be chosen solely to make a chart display a dramatic 1:5 risk-to-reward ratio. Calculate Lot Size from the actual Stop Distance and monetary risk limit. If the broker's minimum tradable lot exceeds that risk budget, skip the setup. The correct technical observation does not authorize an oversized position. RISK-TO-REWARD AND TARGET ROOM Before entering, compare entry-to-Stop distance with the nearest realistic opposing Supply, Demand or swing extreme. A 30-pip Stop with only 15 pips to the next H1 resistance may be unattractive for a strategy that requires higher reward. Moving the target far beyond resistance simply to print a better R multiple does not solve the problem. Some setups with a high theoretical target still lose because price reacts earlier. Define target-selection rules and measure net expectancy after commissions and spread. DAILY LOSS AND WEEKLY LOSS LIMITS A trader can set a maximum monetary loss per day and week as part of behavioral risk control. The right numbers depend on the account and tested model, not on a universal rule. Once the limit is reached, standing aside prevents repeated revenge trades from magnifying a difficult market environment. A losing trade that followed the plan should still be recorded without changing the next position size impulsively. Loss limits and maximum concurrent positions should be written before trading begins. NEWS WINDOW RULES Decide whether high-impact data is an observation-only period or whether a separately tested news strategy permits participation. An NFP or CPI surprise can create huge M1 candles, spread widening and stop-market slippage. The first direction can reverse when market participants digest revisions and details. If your standard strategy requires M5 close, do not abandon that condition because the chart moved suddenly. Avoid treating 'minimum lot' as a guarantee that event trading is safe. A PREMARKET CHECK EACH DAY Before London or New York trading, reread the weekly scenarios and update previous-day highs/lows, H1 structure and upcoming events. Mark which price areas are close enough to watch today, and which pairs are far from valid setups. Check spreads and whether the relevant session has begun. A short checklist can prevent entering at the wrong level or during an excluded news window. The plan can be refined as new facts arrive without retroactively rewriting its original predictions. TRADE JOURNAL ENTRY FIELDS Record symbol, date, session, H4 direction, H1 zone, exact M5 trigger, screenshot, entry price, Stop Loss, Take Profit, lot, expected risk in dollars, actual fill and outcome measured in R. Also record whether the position followed the written rules. A win from breaking the plan is not evidence the process was good, and a planned loss does not mean the process failed. The journal should capture no-trade opportunities and missed confirmations, not merely executed winning trades. REVIEW ONCE PER WEEK At the weekend, compare planned scenarios with actual price behavior and major news outcomes. Count valid setups, false signals, winners, losers, no trades and rule violations. Examine net R, drawdown and whether your chosen session and Stop methods were suitable. Do not change five rules because of one disappointing trade. Look for repeated process issues across a meaningful sample. Adjust the plan deliberately, then evaluate new rules on later data rather than fitting every past result. THE IMPORTANCE OF NO TRADE Some weeks are dominated by sideways consolidation, conflicting macro releases or unclear H4 structure. There may be few high-quality opportunities. A trader who insists on daily profits can create artificial setups, enter without candle confirmation or enlarge positions after losses. A valid weekly plan makes no trade an explicit permitted outcome. It preserves capital and decision quality for periods when the setup conditions are actually present. Patience does not guarantee profit, but impulsive participation increases unnecessary exposure. WEEKLY PLAN FAQ Must the weekly bias remain unchanged all week? No. Should a Support line be one exact price? Not necessarily; zones can be more useful. Do all News releases require a trade? No. Can EUR/USD and Gold share USD risk? Yes. Should a large engulfing be bought without target room? No. Does a confirmed trade guarantee a win? No. The key process is H4 Structure → H1 Zone → Economic Context → M5 Completed Confirmation → Stop & Position Size → Review. No Confirmation = No Trade.
